15th Annual Mushroom Hunt Sunday 16th October 2016
Don your boots and wellies and hike around the estate in search of edible mushroom varieties home grown here on our Estate. This annual Longueville House Mushroom Hunt is a fun family day out for all & ideal for beginners. Do bring waterproof hats and over coats due to our inclement weather and even a pair of sunglasses can be required!
With the guidance of Maria Cullen and Jim Fraser our very own mushroom experts, you can discover the pleasure of this exciting sport here at Longueville House. Afterwards Chef/Proprietor William O’Callaghan along with his team will prepare and cook for you a banquet of autumn mushrooms from the day’s harvest.
Please note that mushroom hunts take place in all sorts of weather so are rarely cancelled due to inclement weather. If anything they may be cancelled due to a lack of rain before the event leaving a shortage of mushrooms to hunt. Due notice will be given to participants in the event of postponement or cancellation.
How the day will run
9.30am and onwards
Participants meet at Longueville House Hotel. A brief orientation & maps are distributed of mushroom sites on the Longueville estate. Participants may set off at their own pace, and break up into smaller groups. Please bring some paper, sacking or basket containers. Non-plastic is best.
Various Groups return to Hotel to clean up, examine mushroom harvest & brief discussion and of course enjoy a welcome seasonal house cocktail!
A highlight of the day is our legendary luncheons! This follows in our Presidents’ Restaurant or Turner Conservatory with a specially prepared & chosen three-course meal by Chef/Proprietor William O’Callaghan and his team. Your wines are specially matched for the occasion.
